Cascina del Colle is a family-run winery from Villamagna in the Abruzzo region. The family combines some 60 years of winemaking tradition with modern cellar techniques and a strong focus on the grape varieties of their region. Their more than 20 hectares of estate-owned vineyards are located primarily in Villamagna as well as in Bucchianico, Ripa Teatina, and Vacri. Many plots are south or southeast facing and are located at an average altitude of 200–250 meters above sea level.

The interplay of hills, sea, and mountains in this part of Abruzzo ensures distinct temperature differences between day and night. Cascina del Colle utilizes these conditions for Montepulciano, Pecorino, Trebbiano, Passerina, and Cerasuolo as well as for special projects like Bio Zero and Falanghina Brut.

What is Bio Zero from Cascina del Colle?

Bio Zero originated from an oenological research project by the winery. They initially worked with Trebbiano, later also with Montepulciano. This resulted in Bio Zero Bianco and Bio Zero Rosso, which Cascina del Colle markets as wines without added sulfites. This does not mean that no sulfites can be naturally produced during fermentation.

What is the difference between Mammut and Negus?

Both belong to the winery's characterful Montepulciano wines but differ significantly in their aging. Mammut matures for a long time in stainless steel, according to technical specifications, while Negus is aged for 18–24 months in barrique. Both are also available from us in special formats.

What is the difference between Villamagna DOC and Villamagna DOC Riserva?

The regular Villamagna DOC matures for twelve months in concrete tanks, according to the winery. The Villamagna DOC Riserva, on the other hand, undergoes 6–8 months of barrique aging, making it the version designed for greater maturity.

Where is Cascina del Colle located?

The winery is based in Villamagna in the province of Chieti. Their own vineyards are distributed across Villamagna and neighboring municipalities in Abruzzo. Montepulciano, in particular, plays a traditionally central role in this area.
